The name "Vivace", which is a musical term meaning lively, was chosen in an attempt to convey the atmosphere of the restaurant. Our intent is to provide outstanding contemporary Italian food at reasonable prices and service that is knowledgeable, gracious and attentive. The Chicago Firehouse was erected in 1905 to serve the Prairie Avenue Community and many of the first families of Chicago, such as the Marshall Fields, the McCormicks, the Palmers and the Glessners.
The building stands in much of its same splendor today. The tin ceiling, the glazed tile walls, the two fire poles located in the bar, and the chief's wall passed when entering the bar, are all original.
